The bottom line
Geico home insurance is best for homeowners looking to bundle their home insurance policy with their Geico auto insurance policy to score a multi-policy discount. If that’s not you, we recommend working with a direct insurance carrier instead and cutting out the middleman (aka Geico).
As an insurance broker, Geico doesn’t underwrite or service the homeowners insurance policies it offers quotes for. Instead, you’ll be connected with a partner insurance company for all of your coverage, customer service, and claims filing needs.

Basic coverages offered
Geico home insurance policies include these six standard coverages to protect your home, belongings, and personal liability:
Dwelling: Pays to repair or rebuild the structure of your home after a covered loss.
Other structures: Pays to repair or rebuild other structures on your property not connected to your home, including detached garages, storage sheds, and fencing.
Personal property: Pays to repair or replace your personal belongings after a covered loss, including furniture, clothing, tech gadgets, and other stuff you own.
Loss of use: Pays for hotel stays, restaurant bills, pet boarding fees, and other temporary living expenses after a covered loss if you need to live elsewhere while your home is being rebuilt.
Personal liability: Pays for legal and medical expenses if someone is injured or their belongings are damaged while at your home and you’re found legally responsible.
Medical payments: Pays for small-dollar medical bills if someone is injured while at your home — regardless of who is at fault.
Additional coverages offered
You may be able to add these additional coverages to your Geico homeowners insurance policy for even more protection, depending on the insurer you're placed with.
Identity theft protection: Offers coverage for credit profile tracking, notifications of high-risk transactions, lost wallet assistance, and online data protection software to ensure your identity is protected.
Jewelry insurance: Includes higher coverage limits for your jewelry than what a standard home insurance policy offers, as well as protection against scenarios not often covered, like if a piece of jewelry is lost or otherwise mysteriously disappears.
Flood insurance: Geico offers flood insurance coverage through the National Flood Insurance Program, a government program run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Mobile home insurance: Insure your manufactured or mobile home with the standard coverages listed in the above section, as well as additional coverage for collectibles, jewelry, sports equipment, musical instruments, and more.
Renters insurance: Includes coverage for the personal belongings in your rental home or apartment against fire, vandalism, theft, windstorms, and water damage, as well as personal liability and loss of use coverage.
Condo insurance: Purchased as a supplement to your condo association’s master policy, condo insurance covers your personal belongings, the interior structure of your condo unit, and personal liability.
Landlord insurance: Includes coverage for the structure of your rental property, liability situations, loss of rental income, and landlord furnishings and appliances.
Umbrella insurance: Provides additional liability protection for expensive medical or legal bills you’re found legally responsible for.
Ratings methodology
Price
3.3/5
Because Geico isn’t a direct insurance carrier, we weren’t able to score the insurer on its average cost of home insurance since rates will vary based on the partner company you’re placed with. That’s why our price rating only factors in the four discounts available when you get a quote through Geico.
Customer experience
3.4/5
Geico is middle of the pack on our customer experience rating scale. While it lands a top 10 spot on J.D. Power’s 2022 U.S. Insurance Digital Experience Study for Overall Customer Satisfaction, it doesn’t score as well on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ National Complaint Index Report. It earned nearly double the number of complaints in 2021 compared to other companies of its size.
Coverage options
2.3/5
Geico doesn’t score well on our coverage options rating scale due to the fact that as a home insurance broker, the different coverage options you have available will depend on the partner insurance company you’re placed with. That’s why our rating only factors in the eight additional coverage options Geico mentions on its website.
Financial strength
5.0/5
Geico scores highest on our financial strength rating scale based on high ratings from AM Best, Standard & Poor's, and Moody’s. All of these rating companies base their scores on the financial strength and solvency of a company.
