Methodology
To determine the best personal finance apps of 2023, we compared more than 100 different apps using a rigorous quantitative scoring system. For all 12 categories, we compiled the Google Play Store rating, the Apple Apple Store rating, and the TrustPilot rating (for every app with an officially claimed TrustPilot page). After averaging those ratings, we compared the features, functionality, and design of each app to determine which deserved best-in-category status.
For banking apps, we included another quantitative layer, the J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Banking Mobile App Satisfaction Study (for all brands that were included in the study).
For all categories, we only considered apps available on both iOS and Android phones, to ensure maximum user availability. For this reason, we did not include platform-native apps like Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay in our analysis.
