The bottom line
Assurant home insurance is ideal for homeowners of manufactured or mobile homes looking for an insurer with strong financial stability — it earns an A+ (Superior) rating from AM Best. proving it likely has the funds to pay out claims in the aftermath of a disaster.
You can not only get a quote online, but it offers the option to purchase your policy with a few clicks in just minutes. And it’s willing to insure previously owned mobile homes of any age — rare in the insurance industry.
However, Assurant’s website isn’t transparent about costs, discounts, or coverage add-ons available. And it received nearly 20% more customer complaints in 2021 than other similar-sized home insurance companies. You also won’t be able to purchase coverage if you live in Florida, Hawaii, or Washington, D.C.
Personal property coverage: Pays to repair or replace your personal belongings after a covered loss, including furniture, clothing, tech gadgets, and other stuff you own.
Loss of use coverage: Pays for hotel stays, restaurant bills, pet boarding fees, and other temporary living expenses after a covered loss if you need to live elsewhere while your home is being rebuilt.
Personal liability coverage: Pays for legal and medical expenses if someone is injured or their belongings are damaged while at your home and you’re found legally responsible.
Medical payments coverage: Pays for small-dollar medical bills if someone is injured while at your home — regardless of who is at fault.
Additional coverages offered
You can add these additional coverages to your Assurant mobile home insurance policy for even more protection:
All-risk protection: Also known as open perils coverage, this extends your policy’s coverage to include more causes of loss that generally aren’t covered in a standard policy.
Flood insurance: Offers flood insurance coverage through the NFIP, a government program run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Extended warranties: Pays to repair or replace AC units, water heaters, and other home systems that are damaged due to mechanical breakdown.
Renters insurance: Purchased by tenants, renters insurance covers the personal belongings in your rental home or apartment against fire, vandalism, theft, windstorms, and water damage, as well as personal liability and loss of use coverage.
