Cost
Using a mix of internal and external rate data, we grade the cost of each insurance company's premiums on a scale from least expensive ($) to most expensive ($$$$$).
AAA home insurance is a stellar idea if you have an existing AAA membership or auto insurance policy — you’ll receive extra savings on your home insurance rate for either. It’s also a great option for homeowners looking for a slew of policy add-ons and discount opportunities — it offers over 15 of each.
Since purchasing a home insurance policy through AAA requires that you have a AAA membership, you’ll also receive a ton of extra perks with your membership, including complimentary roadside assistance, identity theft protection, reimbursement for home locksmith fees, and a ton of discounts at restaurants and stores.
But if customer service is top of mind in the insurance company you choose, you might want to look elsewhere. AAA’s largest regional auto club’s earned average and below-average ratings in several of J.D. Power’s 2022 customer satisfaction surveys.
Another downside? The company as a whole earned over four times more complaints than similar-sized home insurance companies in 2021, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners National Complaint Index.
Affordable rates, plus 15+ home insurance discounts available

Cons

Coverages, discounts, and claims experience will vary by the regional AAA auto club you receive insurance through
Below-average customer satisfaction scores — and 4 times more NAIC complaints than similar home insurance companies
Basic coverages offered
AAA homeowners insurance policies include these six standard coverages to protect your home, belongings, and personal liability:
Dwelling coverage: Pays to repair or rebuild the structure of your home after a covered loss.
Other structures coverage: Pays to repair or rebuild other structures on your property not connected to your home, including detached garages, storage sheds, and fencing.
Personal property coverage: Pays to repair or replace your personal belongings after a covered loss, including furniture, clothing, tech gadgets, and other stuff you own.
Loss of use coverage: Pays for hotel stays, restaurant bills, pet boarding fees, and other temporary living expenses after a covered loss if you need to live elsewhere while your home is being rebuilt.
Personal liability coverage: Pays for legal and medical expenses if someone is injured or their belongings are damaged while at your home and you’re found legally responsible.
Medical payments coverage: Pays for small-dollar medical bills if someone is injured while at your home — regardless of who is at fault.
Additional coverages offered
You can add these additional coverages to your AAA homeowners insurance policy for even more protection:
Extended replacement cost for your home: Extends your dwelling coverage limit up to 50% in the event rebuild costs exceed your policy limit after a covered loss.
Replacement value for personal property: Pays to replace your personal belongings with new items, regardless of depreciation or wear and tear.
Personal injury: Expands liability coverage to include personal injury to others, such as slander, libel, wrongful eviction, or false arrest.
Green upgrades: Covers the added cost to rebuild your home with eco-friendly materials after a covered loss.
Matching roof and siding: If your home’s roof or siding is damaged in a covered loss, this covers the additional cost of replacing the undamaged portion of your roof or siding with something that matches.
Landscaping: Pays to replace plants, shrubs, and trees after a covered loss.
Electronic data restoration: Covers the cost to recover electronic data that’s hacked, stolen, or destroyed in a covered event.
Golf carts: Provides damage and liability protection for rented golf carts.
Fire department charges: Reimburses you for out-of-pocket fees if the fire department is called to your home.
Flood insurance: AAA offers flood insurance coverage through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), a government program run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Earthquake insurance: Coverage is available to California homeowners in qualifying areas at risk of earthquakes through the California Earthquake Authority (CEA), a nonprofit insurer created by the state.
Personal umbrella insurance: Provides additional liability protection for expensive medical or legal bills you’re found legally responsible.
Condo insurance: Purchased as a supplement to your condo association’s master policy, condo insurance covers your personal belongings, the interior structure of your condo unit, and personal liability.
Mobile home insurance: Insures your manufactured or mobile home with the standard coverages listed in the above section.
Renters insurance: Includes coverage for the personal belongings in your rental home or apartment against fire, vandalism, theft, windstorms, and water damage, as well as personal liability and loss of use coverage.
Keep in mind that coverages will vary depending on the regional AAA auto club and insurance subsidiary you receive a policy through.
