Life insurance rates remain stable despite historic inflation and recession fears
Life insurance prices in June 2022 remained mostly unchanged compared to May, with negligible decreases in rates across the board.
Despite accelerating inflation and fears of economic recession, life insurance rates remain as stable as they have been for the past two years, and even decreased slightly in May compared to last year. Overall, rates have decreased by nearly 1.5% from May 2021 to May 2022. Of the profiles we track, 25-year-old smokers saw the biggest rate decrease overall in 2022 compared to 2021 — their rates were an average of $3.20 per month lower in May 2022 than in May 2021. By contrast, the cost of other goods, including food, energy, and medical care services, continued to climb by an average of 8.3%, according to the most recent figures released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The prices represent the average monthly life insurance premium for each sample customer profile (age, gender) and policy type (term, coverage amount) as of June 1, 2022. Monthly averages are based on 10 products available through Policygenius for the indicated profile; rates for those products may vary by state, and not all 10 products are available in all states.
