Gas prices could rise to more than $4 in April, as 2023 shapes up to be another expensive year for American drivers. There are a few behavioral changes you can make to save money on gas (like skipping the drive through so you’re not idling your car), but if you’re looking for help paying the lowest possible price for each gallon, a gas app could be a good place to start. We looked at more than dozen gas apps available for both Android and iPhone and scored them on user rating, their key features, and whether they worked at just one chain of gas stations or anywhere.
These are the best apps we found for saving money on gas this summer, and beyond.

Waze is a crowd-sourced driving app that helps you plan the best route for your journey. But it also includes the ability to find the cheapest gas on your route — and in some cases offers discounts, too.

People love GasBuddy, and its score reflects that. The app offers two services: the ability to find the cheapest gas near you, and a proprietary discount program that can save you up to 25 cents per gallon if you use its prepaid card.

Methodology
To determine the best gas apps of 2023, we compiled the Google Play Store rating and the Apple Store ratings for over a dozen apps that offer gas discounts, cash back on gas, gas tracking, and/or gas comparisons. After averaging those ratings, we scored the features, functionality, and availability of information in each app to determine a final score, which we ranked.
We only considered apps available on both iOS and Android phones, to ensure maximum user availability.
